SET
SET (Sean Edwards Test) is a test given to drivers prior to races. It is meant to assess drivers’ understanding of the rules of the track and race: flag signals, road markings, safety car procedures etc. Developed in collaboration with SRO (Stéphane Ratel Organization), SET is designed to account for the increasingly global nature of motorsport competition. There is no standard process for obtaining an international racing license and any given field of drivers can have dozens of nationalities represented. With pre-race briefings usually conducted in English, it is difficult to know if participants come away with a clear understanding of what’s expected of them.
SET was introduced as a pilot program at SRO GT series races in 2015. Since then, more than 1,000 drivers have participated and feedback—including race directors, organisers and marshals—has been overwhelmingly positive. The consensus is that SET is a critical component of providing a safe racing environment.
Current participants in the SET program include: British GT, Blancpain, and Intercontinental GT Challenge series, MSVR’s LMP3 Cup and GT Cup, and BRDC Formula 3.
